Alt-Shift Wig Laboratory
Using an existing building located in the heart of Huddersfield, I selected a brief in which I had to design a hair salon. I decided to make mine with the concept of recycling - this being the products used within the design as well as the meaning of the hair salon itself. I wanted to create a space for people to donate their hair in order to create wigs for those in need. Below we have the different spaces which run throughout the design.
From the exterior there are plant beds across the window giving a more private experience for those inside whilst drawing the attention of passersby.
Here is the plan of the salon. (From left to right) As you enter the building, a rose tinted glass room is where the wig selection process takes place. To the left, and central in the window is where the hair donation station is located. Working towards the back of the salon is another rose tinted glass room, this is where the wig preparation takes place. Finally, near to the back of the salon we have the hair styling station followed by the toilets and staff area.
